Religious Education

At Gordon Children’s Academy, we believe that in an increasingly diverse society, it is fundamental to understand the world we live in and the people that we interact with in everyday life. A high-quality Religious Education creates a platform for children to ask thought-provoking questions, debate respectfully and have insightful discussions with their peers encouraging children to be their best selves. Children are provided with a wealth of knowledge on the major world religions to help them understand and respect the beliefs of others. They are encouraged to think critically about the impact of religion in the wider society and on a global scale.

We use the Discovery RE programme as our scheme of work. Children learn about the beliefs of the world’s major religions through studying artefacts, places of worship, core values and festivals. We aim to open the children’s eyes to understand the rights and responsibilities they have, to act with tolerance and understanding and to appreciate the advantages of diversity. The Education Act gives parents/carers the right to withdraw their child from RE and Collective Worship. Please contact the Headteacher, if you wish to withdraw your child from RE or Collective Worship.
